Ancestries Trilogy
Ashley & Virile
Ancestries #1
Ashley didn’t know that when he transferred schools he would be stuck in the middle of a snow-covered mountain where danger lurks around every corner and emotions run high, especially around his sole, sexy, male classmate Virile.
Trying to survive the homicidal headmistress and life-threatening classes, Ashley finds himself growing closer and closer to Virile in a way he never imagined being attracted to another man. Virile understands Ashley more than Ashley believes possible and a joking kiss leads to steamy nights, but life isn’t so simple for the young couple. Especially since Virile and Ashley aren’t fully human and more than one person wants them dead. Not to mention, Virile comes from a prestigious straight-only family, Ashley has three psychotically possessive brothers and Virile is popular… too popular for surprisingly jealous Ashley. These five short stories follow Ashley and Virile’s relationship through their rough beginning to their bouts of jealousy as well as their fights with family in 55,000 words of male on male romance. Available at Amazon as both an E-Book and Paperback |
Season Of Ancestries
Ancestries #2
Failin is slow.
Don’t be mistaken, though. He isn’t stupid. It just takes longer than normal for him to process information. This disability often earns him the label of retard and people treat him differently. Despite everything, his cheerful personality and loyal disposition gain him the attention of Rune. Rune is the star of everything, not that he means to be, but he naturally excels at anything he does, not unlike his dolphin counterpart. When trying to put together a play worthy of their school’s fifteen year legacy as the number one playwright in the nation, only Failin is holding them back. Even though Rune misunderstands and blames Failin for their struggles, the gentle tiger only has praise for his idol. When an offer to help turns into more, props fly and love (and sex) is in the air. But can Rune get over being a man’s mate or a bottom? And Failin has more secrets and pain than Rune may be able to handle. In a world where shapeshifters live alongside humans, finding love comes with its own set of problems. These short stories follow the lust, angst and troubles of five unlikely couples in 60,000 words of steamy hot male on male love. Withering Time
Ancestries #3 (Final)
Nalih was given an impossible choice: trade his body to men or die.
Years later, Nalih has little faith in humanity and no hope for his future. When his current lover crosses the one line Nalih will not tolerate, he finally gathers the courage to leave, but he is set adrift without a way to survive. Enter Kai, a rough kind of guy who doesn’t understand how Nalih can stand to trade his body like a common whore. Even so, Kai is mesmerized by the beautiful, haunted Nalih and if Nalih will let him, he wants to give him the world. But Nalih isn’t ready for a real relationship. He can’t trust anyone to love him or understand why anyone would want to. It will take more than just Kai to give Nalih a happily ever after. Especially since Nalih is a shapeshifting plant, the bottom of the shapeshifting hierarchy. In 55,000 words of steamy male on male romance, these six short stories explore the dangers but also rewards of falling in love. Blaine's Thoughts On: The Ancestries Trilogy
Okay, where to start on this one. The Ancestries Series is a very important series for me, seeing as it was my first MM novel series to ever be published, but it was never meant to be taken seriously. When I wrote Ashley & Virile, I wanted fluffy, campy, happy goodness. I wanted situations so over-the-top unreal all you could do was laugh and go WTF. Then I found I had characters like Visage I wanted to explore in Season of Ancestries and that Ashley & Virile weren't quite done with making an appearance just yet. By the time I reached Withering Time, I still wanted the over-the-top unbelievable factor, but I found I had matured and the stories I created reflected this. An interesting fact about the series: I didn't list the series title on the covers of the novels because I wanted people not to be deterred by the fact SOA or WT weren't the first in the series as they can be read as standalone novels. But enough about the series as a whole, let me get down to the anthologies and how they came about.
I never expected Ashley & Virile to, first off, be published, or, second off have an entire series based off of their world. They weren't the first MM couple I had written but they were close to it. I wrote the entirety of their stories my last year in high school... mainly in math class. I was heavily influenced by Japanese Yaoi/Shounen AI and I have been told it shows. Ashley & Virile are my cutesy couple. They have some issues, mostly unrealistic, over-the-top stuff, but mainly they are supposed to be lovey-dovey idiots.
Season of Ancestries was partially in the works while I was still writing A&V, but most of it was written after I finished A&V's story. I started off with Visage. I knew I wanted him to be gay and I thought, what character would be the craziest for him to wind up with? Hiun. Then, I fell into the classic teacherXstudent cliche with Sevan and Luke. After that, I knew I wanted to imagine more stories in this world I had created. From that desire the rest of the anthology slowly filled in. I finished SOA shortly before finishing high school.
By the time I had graduated, Withering Time was already being planned out and that summer I completed most of the stories before starting college. I wanted the same over-the-top feel of my previous two books, but darker. I wanted to see my characters struggle, overcome obstacles and grow from their pain. Something surprising about this collection of stories: there were supposed to be at least one more tale. I wanted to talk about a character so consumed by his animal half, he was more beast than human. Halfway through writing his story, I just couldn't finish it. I lost who I wanted the character to be and I wasn't very invested in his relationship. That was when I decided I was done with the Ancestries world.
So, if you just need a happy, campy, WTF story to make your day, pick up one of these stories and laugh like I did in my math class.—Blaine
